Snellville Mayor Purchases a Memorial Brick Paver for ALL City Veterans
During Kelly Kautz's Mayor's Report at Monday's Snellville City Council, Mayor Kautz surprised her political rival, Councilman Tom Witts by purchasing a brick paver for the Snellville Veterans Memorial that he has been working on for the past several months.
Through her comments, Mayor Kautz stated that she has always supported the idea of a Veterans Memorial, but Mayor Kautz wished that the memorial could be free for all veterans. Kautz provided examples of veterans living in Snellville who had a limited or fixed income.
"Veterans have already paid with the service they provided for our Country; they should not have to pay for their own memorial. I wish that I could afford to personally purchase an individual brick for all Snellville veterans, but I cannot " said Kautz.
Instead Monday night Mayor Kautz used campaign funds to purchase a brick paver which will simply be inscribed "Thank you to ALL veterans who have served our country".
Although the Snellville Veterans Memorial will be located on City property it is a private project. Costs of the Memorial are being paid by selling brick pavers to veterans and their families and friends.
