How to give convenient store's soda fountains the finger---Soda Jerk 101 !
By Tom Livsey, OurTown National News Editor,
As we come into the hot months of the year, surely you will be at your favorite convenient store trying to multi-task. You are in a hurry. You are thirsty, and your car is on empty. They know this fact, and they are prepared for you this summer.
As you wait your turn to pull up to the gas pumps, with a line behind you, you are also dehydrated, and you see a sign 99 cent 55 oz. soda in the front window of the store. Please believe there will be another line behind you there, inside.
So, you park in front of an empty gas pump. Run inside to get you a big cheap 55 oz. soda, then run to the counter and pay for your drink and gas, only to finally get inside your vehicle, as you are pulling out the busy store's driveway, to realize that once the foam settled inside your cup, you only purchased 16 ounces of real beverage.
Darn it ! Its what they have incorporated in their marketing strategy, called 'Consumer Behavior' .
Next time do this unknown soda jerk trick, in order to get your last drop of your favorite beverage.
As you are filling up your soda glass, put your (Clean) index finger to the knuckle inside the beverage cup. As your cup is filling up slowly continue to fill your cup.
Believe it or not, magically the foam will form as before. Yet this time, the carbonated foam will not over-flow, if done correctly, and you will be able to fill your glass to the rim with real soda, as quickly as ever.
But, this time you will get your money's worth of drink, down to the last damn penny.
Understand, just like at the gas pump, convenient stores are banking on you being in a hurry, and not concentrating on getting the last penny of fuel, or the last ounce of cheap soda, that they have strategically priced so low.
While the extra carbonation is needed for you to enjoy a burping sensation of a coke, they fill the lines with more air than carbonation, knowing that you are eventually going to walk out with 32 ozs, than the 55 ozs. that they priced to you at the counter.
Give them your index finger and not your 'Bird' finger, and please do not try this in the mornings, when pouring their coffee !
