    Airbourne is getting ready for a golden year of RAF displays, joining the RAF Red Arrows celebrating 50 display seasons.With four days of Red Arrows displays already confirmed, Eastbourne will also welcome the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Tucano, Tutor, Sea King and for fast jet fans, the resounding heavy metal of the Eurofighter Typhoon. The four day free seafront airshow, which runs from 14 17 August, also sees the return of the Army and Navy too, with a larger military exhibition planned for the Western Lawns, and many more aircraft and international displays still to be announced.     Fifteen year old singer/songwriter, Tyanna Griffiths, took the crowd by storm at Seahaven Academy last night with her passionate performance of her original song, Broken, which she was inspired to write following the death of her grandfather. The audience of around 400 people saw Tyanna named as the winner of Seahaven's Got Stars, with pianist Francesco Redica coming second and vocalist Morgan Smith coming third. More...

    Seaford Town Council and Lewes District Council have recently been working closely to organise repairs to Splash Point in Seaford. This will make it accessible to the public once again following damage during storms earlier in the year.     Fancy a day out in the gorgeous East Sussex countryside? CTLA Community Transport have launched a brand new bus service. The Towns and Downs Wanderer will operate on Summer Sundays and Bank Holidays until the end of September 2014. CTLA minibuses will provide access to some areas that larger vehicles cannot reach. Serving Newhaven, Lewes, Ditchling and Hassocks the service also provides the unique opportunity to enjoy the wonderful views of the Sussex landscape from the top of Firle Beacon. More...

  6. HISTORIC LINK LEADS TO INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP FOR NEWHAVENWed, 28 May 2014 13:50:12 EST
    Newhaven Town Council has signed a friendship and co-operation agreement with Vinh City, the city in Vietnam where Ho Chi Minh was born. This has come about as a result of the historical link the Sussex port has with Ho Chi Minh, who is believed to have worked as a pastry chef on the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry as a young man in the 1910s. The Town Council erected 10 banners on West Quay, Newhaven last year with colourful and quirky historical sound bites on them one of which was about Ho Chi Minhs link with the town. This resulted in a visit to the town by the Vietnamese Ambassador and led to talks with Vietnam about closer ties of friendship. More...

    Come to the Martello Fields on Saturday 28th June 2014 and show your support for our Armed Forces, past, present and future in celebration of Armed Forces Day. Armed Forces Day is an annual, national campaign that gives everybody the opportunity to show their support for all those servicemen and women of the Armed Forces, past and present, including current serving troops, service families, reservists, veterans and cadets. The Martello Fields will be open from 11am to 4pm hosting community stalls, fun fair rides, arena displays, military exhibitions and the Veterans and Cadets parade.     Community Transport for the Lewes Area (CTLA) has launched two new bus services, 131 & 132, after receiving kickstart funding from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF). CTLA, a registered charity, already provides transport for over seven thousand passenger journeys a month in East Sussex with dial-a-ride services, travel club trips and affordable vehicle hire to charities and community groups.     Saturday June 7th 2014 is the day chosen to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the opening of the Brighton to Seaford Railway Line. There will be events at most stations on the line, and at least 3 special trains between 10.00 and 16.00.     On Saturday 16th August 2014 WRAS will be holding another fun Unusual Quiz Night at East Dean Village Hall, Village Green Lane, Off Gilberts Drive, East Dean, BN20 0DJ. The doors open at 7pm, the food will be served from 7.30pm and the Quiz will start about 8pm.     This week has seen WRAS launch its new Ambulance, sponsored by Animal Friends Insurance. Elaine and Chris Fairfax the Managing Directors of Animal Friends Insurance visited us to hand over the keys and help unwrap the new ambulance which will replace one of our old ambulance which is having to be taken off the road due to the amount of money it is costing in repairs.
