This week’s installment of “The Amazing Race” started in Azerbaijan and continued to Tanzania, Africa. Dave and Rachel, the married couple, having won the last leg, started out first, but all of the teams caught up at the airport and were on the same plane to Tanzania. The game heated up when the “Big Brother” team and Vanessa and Ralph had words, and the border patrol agents confronted Nary and Jamie, the federal agents posing as schoolteachers, about their true identity.
Feelings were hurt, and muscles flexed, but everyone agreed that the wilds of Africa presented some of the most magnificent scenery of the season. Two teams at a time flew over the African plains in small aircraft to a remote area where they had to choose between “Marksmanship” and “Courtship”. Courtship involved jumping for a minute, and in Marksmanship each team member had to throw a club at and hit a revolving target. Neither seemed to be very difficult, and none of the teams was held up very long by this challenge. Our Kentucky boys chose the “Courtship” option, and joked that they hoped they weren’t courting each other.
Art and JJ took a wrong turn to the next contest, so Dave and Rachel jumped out in front again. The task involved putting together a safari tent and camping area where the teams could spend the night. No little pop-up tent, this was a major undertaking, and the teams even had to construct a working shower. Everybody had trouble with this one, but Dave and Rachel managed to beat out Mark and Bopper to win the week. The Kentuckians came in a very respectable second, and managed to keep their tempers and their cool when most of the others were losing both.
The final team to arrive at the pit stop was Nary and Jamie, who were convinced that they would be going home. Fortunately for them, this was another non-elimination round, so we should see the same cast of characters again next week.
