Today, a mild mannered city employee became a super hero to a group of kids in Nampa.
On a sweltering hot summer day, when children were bored, and all seemed lost; he drove up, in his super hero mobile, and saved the day. Like a mighty giant, he stood proud in his bright orange super hero uniform as he took on the fire hydrant beast before him.
He fought the hydrant with ease as the children began to gather. They watched in awe as the spout of the surly hydrant opened up, shooting a spout of water at least 20 yards across the cul de sac.
Pandemonium ensued as the rejoicing children ran into the spout of water. They played, they splashed, and they ran in puddles. They had fun. I watched the super hero lead the children to three different fire hydrants on the street. They followed him like mice following the Pied Piper.
At each hydrant, he took the time to twist and turn the nozzles. He splashed the kids; he shot the water high in the air; and he briefly flooded the cul de sac so that a smaller child could sit in a puddle of water and gain relief from the heat.
Ok so he was working. He was draining pipes for the City of Nampa. I will tell you though; for one glorious hour today he was a super hero to all of the kids on my street. Thank you for making it fun for them.
