We live in a fast paced world. We get in our cars every day and speed off down the road to do our daily duties, hardly ever taking the time to stop and smell the roses. If we do stop to stare out our car window, it’s usually at something shocking, tragic, or not worth looking at. I guess it’s our nature, but I’d like to think we are more than that. Every day we drive past a handful of wonderful things, not noticing the beauty we are missing.
Today I was getting gas at the Albertson’s at 12th and Greenhurst. I noticed that something had traffic at a standstill. Remember, we always look when traffic is stopped. It’s our nature.
There were lines of cars stopped going both ways on Greenhurst, and the traffic coming out of the Albertson’s parking lot was also backed up.
Then I saw it, the situation. The reason we all stop and take a look. A mama duck, towering over a group of ducklings was shuffling her children across the street. This “mama” had stopped the rat race. In a matter of two minutes, she made a group of many people stop in their tracks, relax, take a breath, and enjoy life.
No one sped by. No one honked their horn. Every car I saw had people looking out the window at the group of ducks, just going about their day.
My daughter squealed and we grabbed the camera. By the time we got in camera range, the ducks had made it safely across and like that, poof! rat race returned.
The mama had safely guided a group of young ducklings across one of the busiest roads in Nampa and shuffled them on to the bank of the creek that runs in front of Albertson’s, all without ruffling any one’s feathers.
This article is really about nothing, but if you took five minutes to read it, relax, look at my photos and smile, then it did what I intended for it to do.
