BY TIM CARY. Purdue surprised quite a few experts on Saturday night in Eugene, Oregon. The double-digit underdog Boilermakers made the long cross-country trek, ignored a hostile crowd, survived a rainstorm (perfect weather for Ducks), rushed the ball effectively, and dominated most of the ballgame.
BY TIM CARY. Purdue sophomore Ralph Bolden claimed to be nervous before his first career start at running back. My heart was jumping through my chest, Bolden said after the game. Bolden raced 78 yards for a touchdown on his first carry of the season and piled up a total of 234 yards (the third-best performance in school history) to spark the Boilermakers to a 52-31 win over Toledo.

The local Greater Lafayette teams got off to a slow start after the first two days of the Colt World Series at Loeb Stadium, but there is plenty of baseball left to play.
Rain may have canceled the Colt World Series home run derby and fastest runner competition Tuesday but it didn't dampen the spirits of the Colt World Series participants during a pre-tournament program at Lafayette Jefferson High School.
Ottawa had zero shots on goal, FC Indiana scored three goals but it was the Ottawa Fury who claimed W-League Central Conference title Sunday night at Jefferson High School.
As in the previous four seasons, FC Indiana again are the highest scoring team in the country averaging 4.2 goals scored per game over five seasons and nearly 4.5 goals this season. Leading the W-League in goals scored (31 goals in seven games) is an impressive achievement in itself, but no one would have reckoned with three FC Indiana forwards among goal-scoring leaders.
FC Indiana is forming an FC Indiana Masters team. The Masters team will be comprised of players 40 years old and older and will compete in the USSF sanctioned Masters tournaments.
In a battle of competing womens soccer leagues, FC Indiana of the USL W-League defeated Womens Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Carmel United 6-0 on Tuesday night in Carmel.

John Edwards recently served as team athletic trainer for the USA Wrestling Team that traveled to Kiev, Ukraine. The team, along with athletes from 19 other countries, competed in the Ukrainian Wrestling Federation's Senior Memorial Tournament that was held February 21 - 22.
FC Indiana coach Shek Borkowski has confirmed that Japan WNT midfielder Mizuho Sakaguchi will join the club in March. The loss of six players from last seasons squad to WPS draft has reduced Borkowskis midfield options and the signing of Sakaguchi is expected to strengthen the squad.
Shek Borkowski announced that FC Indiana and Hoosiers FC have merged to form a new soccer organization that will be based out of Lafayette and Noblesville and retain the FC Indiana name. In 2008 Hoosiers FC won U13 boys State Cup, their U16 boys finished second and their U13 girls won State Challenge Cup.
Central Catholic Baseball Christmas Camp will be held Dec. 29-30 at Central Catholic High School, 2410 S. Ninth St. The camp will focus on drills that enhance and improve the fundamentals and mechanics of all positions defensively and offensively.
FC Indiana announced Thursday that former Valparaiso University defender and current Wabash College assistant Tyler Pagano has been appointed FC Indiana Academy Coach. Pagano was a three-year starter at Valparaiso, anchoring a 2007 defense that allowed only 28 goals in 18 total matches.

The Falcons and the Titans met for the second consecutive week, this time for the Lafayette 56ers youth football league title and the Falcons came out on top again 19-12 Sunday night. It took the Falcons stopping the Titans on its final drive to preserve the victory and an 8-0 record.
The Titans and the Falcons, two of the top teams in the Lafayette 56ers youth football league, took to the field last Sunday as both teams and parents watched their kids learn teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship.
