LAFAYETTE -- The Board of Directors of The Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette formally awarded and recognized the recipients of more than 40 scholarships for students at a reception Tuesday, May 25 at the Lafayette Country Club.

LAFAYETTE The Greater Lafayette Commerce named five middle and high school teachers as winners of the 2010 Golden Apple Award at a banquet Monday, April 19 at the Best Western Executive Plaza.
The 23rd annual event gives teachers $1,000 for the honor. Teachers are nominated by students, parents, and colleagues.

A Harrison High School senior is one of five
scholarship winners awarded by Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. last week. A volunteer committee of community educators and guidance
counselors assisted SIA in the selection of this years five recipients based
on Scholarship Aptitude Test scores, high school academic standing and promise,
character, and leadership ability.
Be Creative at Your Library is the theme for the 2009 Summer Reading Clubs running May 26 - July 31 at all Tippecanoe County Public Libraries. The Youth Department offers a variety of summer programs for young people from birth to 12 years of age.

The Wabash Valley Youth Symphony will perform a spring concert on Sunday, May 17 at 7:15 pm at the Long Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Lafayette. The concert, like all WVYS concerts, is free and open to the public.
Fifteen Lafayette-area string musicians, including four who are home-schooled, are winners of this year's McPherson String Scholarships to advance their musical training, the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra announced Tuesday (April 28).
Downtown Lafayettes ambience and pedestrian friendliness is getting a boost this week as the city installs 23 new benches, 17 planters and 36 waste cans. Thanks to the efforts of the Lafayette Mayors Youth Council to increase recycling, the waste cans accommodate trash on one side and recyclables on the other.
The United Way of Greater Lafayette Volunteer Center is looking for potential participants for the Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) program for this summer. Leaders of Tomorrow matches youth ages 11-15 with area agencies to volunteer two days per week, 2-3 hours per day, for either 4 or 8 weeks in June and July.
A group of youth volunteers building a house with Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette has been selected to receive a $5,000 matching grant from State Farm for its accomplishments in house building and fund raising.
An exhibition highlighting the work of talented high school artists in 11 mediums will be displayed at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette, 102 S. 10th St., from April 5 to May 2. There will be an awards ceremony and reception for the exhibit from 2-4 p.m. on April 5.
The Indiana Music Educators Association announced that 23 area students in fourth through eighth grades are among the 280 students from across the state of Indiana who have been selected to sing in the 2009 Indiana All-State Childrens and Middle School Honor Choirs.
The Art Museum of Greater Lafayette will hold a free ArtSmart teacher workshop for fourth grade teachers, art teachers and media specialists from 5-8 p.m. on Monday (Dec. 8) at 102 S. 10th St.
Seniors Allison Harp and F.N. Lutz, III were named Homecoming Queen and King at Harrison High School Friday night during the Brownsburg-Harrison football game at Rickard Field. Harp wants to become a pediatric nurse practioner. Lutz wants to continue his football career in college.
Six McCutcheon High School students were selected to participate in the Indiana All State Honors Choir in January. The students are Chad Barker, Kari Hession, Ian Moran, Megan Outhouse, John Ruiz and Bri Young.
Students, faculty and staff at Harrison High School have a new banking option with a new student-run bank opened by the Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union. The branch was greeted by school and elected officlals Tuesday with a ceremony and ceremonial ribbon-cutting.
