LAFAYETTE – Sonya Claiborne, president of the Student Government Association at Ivy Tech Community College’s Lafayette region, is Lafayette/West Lafayette OurTown.com’s Student of the Month.

Claiborne was nominated by Eric VandeVoorde, director for student life, development and leadership at Ivy Tech Lafayette.

“Sonya is incredibly active on campus, and also helps out in the community,” VandeVoorde said.

Along with being president of SGA, she is also the family events chair of the campus activities board, a student ambassador, a peer mentor and involved in work-study in the Office of Student Life. Statewide, she is a member of the SGA President’s Council and a member of the Ivy Tech Strategic Planning Committee.

Claiborne is studying in Ivy Tech’s busines administration program and plans to graduate in May, 2013.
