LAFAYETTE – Central Catholic and West Lafayette, the area’s two state-ranked teams, will face stiff opponents on Friday as the second week of high school football gets underway in Indiana.
Central Catholic, ranked No. 1 in Class A and riding a 46-game winning streak, will face Guerin Catholic, ranked No. 10 in Class 2A. Central Catholic defeated Hoosier Conference rival Delphi 52-7 last week. Guerin Catholic gave Central Catholic a tough match last year and this game will be watched closely throughout the state.
West Lafayette, ranked No. 3 in Class 3A, goes on the road to battle Lewis Cass, ranked No. 15 in Class 2A. The Red Devils edged Tri-West 9-7 last week on a last-second field goal by Brody Forbes. Cass, meanwhile, whipped Pioneer, ranked No. 6 in Class A, 33-12.
Greater Lafayette’s 5A schools will also be looking for their first win. Lafayette Jeff, a 41-20 loser to Zionsville last week, takes on crosstown rival Harrison. Harrison lost to Westfield 27-7 in its opener. McCutcheon, a 36-9 loser to Brownsburg a week ago, will get its shot at Zionsville on the road.
