LAFAYETTE – It was an exciting high school football season in the Greater Lafayette area and this season could be the same as the regular season kicks off Friday, Aug. 17.
Central Catholic, the three-time defending Class A champions, will enter this season with a 45-game winning streak, the second longest in the history of Indiana high school football. It will take that streak into the season for the first time with star Danny Anthrop, who graduated and is now playing at Purdue University.
Central Catholic, which won the Hoosier Conference last season, will open the season at home against conference foe Delphi. Hoosier Conference foe West Lafayette, which lost to Central Catholic in the final seconds last season, will open at home against Tri-West.
West Lafayette had a stellar season as well, finishing the season 12-2, ranked No. 6 in Class 3A before losing to South Bend St. Joseph’s in the Class 3A semi-state game.
Greater Lafayette three Hoosier Crossroads Conference teams Harrison, Lafayette Jeff and McCutcheon, will hope to improve their record against a tough suburban Indianapolis schedule. All three teams also open at home.
Harrison opens the season against Westfield. McCutcheon welcomes Brownsburg to town while Zionsville will travel to Scheumann Stadium to take on Lafayette Jeff.
