Sycamore Springs focuses on Mental Health Month

From Lafayette/ West Lafayette, Indiana

LAFAYETTE -- May is Mental Health Month and Sycamore Springs Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Center is calling on the community to help the one in four American adults who live with a diagnosable, treatable mental health condition.

Mental Health Month was created more than 50 years ago by Mental Health America.

To raise awareness about mental health conditions, Sycamore Springs has launched a lime green ribbon campaign. To pick up your own lime green ribbon to wear and show your support for those choosing a path of sober living and mental wellness, please email Keily Mohler at keilymohler@spsh.com or stop by Sycamore Springs.

Many people living with a mental health condition — as high as 50 percent — never seek or receive help due to stigma, lack of information, cost or lack of health insurance coverage.

“The biggest fear I had is that people are going to find that I have a mental illness and ostracize me. But being able to come into a facility like this and sit in a group of people who have the same issues and concerns creates a safe environment for talking about the same problems I was afraid to tell anyone else about,” says a student at Purdue University who participated in the inpatient and outpatient programs at Sycamore Springs.

The lime green ribbon campaign at Sycamore Springs is intended to help the community show support for their family members and friends who are showing courage to talk about their mental health illnesses and seeking help to get better.

Sycamore Springs is dedicated to providing treatment services to adults suffering from the devastating effects of mental illness and/or addiction. We believe that long-term recovery can be a reality for millions of people. We are committed to providing an effective treatment experience and making a difference in the lives of those who seek sobriety and mental wellness.
