LAFAYETTE -- Food prices are escalating again and families are having difficulty making ends meet due to lingering effects of the recession. 

Sharon Versyp, head coach of the Purdue women’s basketball team, has stepped up to support hungry people by again agreeing to be the Honorary Chair for Hunger Hike. 

According to coach Versyp, “It is important for the team to give back to the community and nothing is more basic than making sure people have enough to eat.” 

Versyp has designated Hunger Hike as a community service project for the Purdue Women’s Basketball Team.

The “Hunger Hike 2012 Kick-off Event” will take place on Wednesday, April 25 at Lafayette Urban Ministry, 420 N. Fourth Street, Lafayette at 10:30 a.m. to start the corporate solicitation campaign.

The Hunger Hike will be held Sunday, September 16.
