LAFAYETTE – Local area boys basketball teams take the spotlight next week (Feb. 27) as the Indiana’s version of “Hoosier Hysteria” kicks off sectional play.
All three of the Tippecanoe County’s Hoosier Crossroad Conference teams will play in the opening night of sectionals at the 4A Kokomo sectional Tuesday. Harrison (5-15) will play McCutcheon (5-15) in the first game. Lafayette Jeff (13-6) will face Marion (8-11) in the second game.
The Harrison/McCutcheon winner will battle host No. 8-ranked Kokomo (17-4) in the first game on Friday, March 2, while the Jeff/Marion winner faces Logansport (10-8). The championship game will be played on Saturday, March 3.
In the Twin Lake 3A sectional, West Lafayette (14-6) will battle No. 11-ranked Northwestern (18-2) in one of the opening round games. Twin Lakes (13-8) will take on Maconquah (12-8) and No. 9 Western (16-4) will battle Peru (9-10) in the two other openers.
On Friday, Benton Central (11-9) will face the Twin Lakes/Maconquah in one semifinal while the winners of the West Lafayette/Northwestern game and the Western/Peru matches will square off in the other semifinals with the championship tilt on Saturday.
In the Class 1A Tri-Central sectional in Sharpsville, No. 9-ranked Central Catholic (12-8) will play in the semifinals against Rossville (10-10). In the other semifinal, Frontier (4-16) will battle the winner of the opening round match between Clinton Prairie (7-12) and host Tri-Central (7-12). Friday night winners will play for the title on Saturday.
