LAFAYETTE – The United Way of Greater Lafayette announced Thursday (Oct. 4) that it has passed the midway point of its 2012 campaign goal of $4.75 million.
In the first reporting meeting, held at Bauer Family Resources’ Community Center, officials said $2.45 million has been raised to date. The theme of this year’s campaign is “Team Up Live United.”
The United Way of Greater Lafayette funds services that help prepare children to succeed in school and collaborates with other education-focused organizations for initiatives including Read to Succeed and Kindergarten Countdown Camp.
Bauer Family Resources, one of United Way of Greater Lafayette’s participating organizations, was highlighted at the report meeting. Bauer houses our community's Head Start programs, which promote school readiness among low-income children by developing social and academic skills before kindergarten.
Based on annual assessments, aggregate student scores were categorized as "very satisfactory" across a spectrum of skills from language and literacy, to math and science, or social development. Last year, all children who participated in Bauer's Head Start program were ready to enter kindergarten and succeed.
Bill Olds, president of the Lafayette Life Foundation and 2012 campaign chair, asked division chairs to report their successes. Some of the highlights included:
