Barry Richard, Executive Director of Lyn Treece Boys and Girls Club said, "It is imperative that we keep our facilities maintained and in top shape for the youth who are served by our programs. Both of our sites are busy with active young people learning to be responsible adults. Thanks to The Community Foundation’s grant, we will be engaging youth in positive programming, thereby helping them prepare for life and work in today’s world.”

$6,750                   Wabash Center

Facility-based support services

Executive Director Richard Ferguson expressed thanks, saying, “This new program is a part of our Strategic Plan and will allow us to better serve our clients by providing them with much-needed supportive services during the day. So many of our clients have disabilities that impact their lives but with our help and with their determination, they are able to make the world a better place, both for them and for the entire community. Thanks to the Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette for supporting us in our work.”

                                YWCA of Greater Lafayette

$548                       Dance Bar for youth dance programs

$14,950 Roof for main building

Debi Debruyn, Executive Director of the local YWCA explained, “Our agency has many needs as we continue to strengthen our programs and provide services to our community. With 70 additional dancers this fall, bringing the total to 320, we desperately needed to expand our dance studio space.  The funds for the roof come at a critical time. The gym roof must be completely replaced, and if urgent maintenance isn’t done immediately on the rest of the roof, it too will be lost. We can’t thank the Community Foundation enough for their generosity.”

The Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette, established in 1970, serves the Tippecanoe County area.  Its mission is to inspire, nurture, and practice philanthropy, stewardship, and leadership in the communities served. More than 145 charitable funds totaling $33.5 million in assets make up The Community Foundation.  During its history over $13.8 million has been granted to not-for-profit organizations, primarily in Greater Lafayette. In 2011, not-for-profit organizations and individuals received grants and scholarships totaling over $959,915. Over half of the grant awards to not-for-profit organizations were for much-needed operating expenses, but many grants were for those one-time capital expenses that nonprofits struggle to fund and desperately need. An Annual Report is available electronically. For additional information, visit www.cfglaf.org or call (765) 742-9078.
