High school playoffs kick off Friday

From Lafayette/ West Lafayette, Indiana

LAFAYETTE – One local team will be defending its state title while another will be trying to win for the first time since 2010 when Indiana high school football post season kicks off on Friday (Oct. 19).

Lafayette Central Catholic (8-1), the three-time defending Class A champions, will try for another march to Lucas Oil Stadium when it takes on North White (4-5) at home. If the Knights win, they will take on the Clinton Central/Caston winner in the sectional semifinal next week. North White will be the first Class A team Central Catholic, ranked No. 1 in Class A, has faced all season while winning the Hoosier Conference for the second year in a row.

On the flipside, Harrison (0-9) will battle cross county rival McCutcheon (1-9) in the Class 5A sectional opener at Harrison. The Raiders have not won a game since 2010. McCutcheon’s only victory this season came against Harrison in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference contest. Lafayette Jeff (3-6), the area’s other HCC team, will face No. 14 Hamilton Southeastern (7-2) in its sectional opener.

West Lafayette (6-3), which finished third in the Hoosier Conference this year, will face No. 4 Hamilton Heights (8-1) at home in the Class 3A sectional opener.
