State-ranked McCutcheon leads local girls hoops teams into sectional play

LAFAYETTE – The Indiana girls basketball sectionals kick off the week of Feb. 6 with some interesting local matchups.

McCutcheon, the No. 8 ranked team in Class 4A, will try to repeat its deep run in the girls tournament last year as they will play in its sectional at Logansport High School’s Berry Bowl.

Lafayette Jeff (6-14) will kick off the Logansport sectional against Marion (8-10) on Tuesday, Feb. 7. If Jeff wins, it will battle McCutcheon (17-3) in the second sectional semifinal.

Harrison (3-17) will play the first sectional semifinal against the winner of Tuesday’s Logansport/Kokomo game.

The winners of the semifinals will play for the sectional championship at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11.

In the West Lafayette 3A sectional Wednesday, Feb. 8, the Red Devils (11-8) will have their work cut out for them at home as they face Western (12-6). The Red Devils lost by double-digits to Western to open the season.

If West Lafayette wins, they will play the winner of the Maconaquah (3-16)/Peru (6-12) game in the sectional semifinals on Friday.

Benton Central, ranked No. 5 and last year’s state finalist, is on the opponent end of the West Lafayette sectional bracket.

In the Class A sectional in Rossville, defending sectional champion Lafayette Central Catholic (3-16) will face the host Hornets (9-10) in the sectional semifinals Friday, Feb. 10. Rossville beat Central Catholic by two points earlier in the season.

The winner will advance to the sectional finals on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. No. 8-ranked Frontier (16-2) and No. 9-ranked Tri-Central (17-4) will play in the first round of the Rossville sectional are the winner will likely play in the finals.
