LAFAYETTE – The Art Museum of Greater Lafayette will host three exhibitions starting Friday, Sept. 30 and running through Jan. 7.
The exhibits include, “Inspiring Generations: Sister Rufinia and Her Students,” “The Community Curates: Favorites from the Permanent Collection,” and “Parade of Pastels: Ron Burgess and Students.”
Inspiring Generations is a retrospective of the works of Sister Mary Rufinia, a Lafayette artist who began painting in the 1920’s and touched the lives of many generations of Greater Lafayette families through her teaching. This exhibition will feature 50 of her works and many works by her students, including Todd Reifers and Ron Burgess, two of her most successful students who went on to become two of Indiana’s leading painters.
It is sponsored by Reed and Company; The Sisters of St. Francis; and Westminster Village.
For The Community Curates, the Art Museum invited community leaders to peruse the works in the Permanent Collection and choose a favorite. This exhibit will contain many of the most important objects in our collection.
Parade of Pastels will feature the pastel paintings of Ron Burgess, a student of Sister Rufinia’s and the pastel instructor at the Art Museum. Nine of Ron’s students will also exhibit their pastel paintings in this exhibition.
