LAFAYETTE – Jinre Holman, 17, a senior honor student at Lafayette Jefferson High School, is OurTown.com’s Student of the Month for August.
Holman, the daughter of Jos and Rita Holman, is a member of Jeff’s National Honor Society, the school’s acapella choir and the Mayor’s Youth Commission. She is a member of the East Side Evergreen 4-H Club and recently represented Lafayette youth at the Indiana Black Expo Youth Empowerment Summit in Indianapolis.
Holman is a member of the Bronchos’ track team, where she runs the 400 and 200 meter races and the 4x400 relay.
She said after graduating in May 2011, she wants to attend either Alabama A&M, DePaul or Ball State and major in accounting or agricultural economics because she loves math. She also has studied Spanish for three years.
Holman said her older sister, Lillian, 28, has been the most influential person in her life. She said her older sister has earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, lives in Atlanta and has been a positive role model for her.
