WEST LAFAYETTE -- Rain has forced the Greater Lafayette Indiana Black Expo to postpone its annual Back to School Rally to Saturday, Aug. 14.
The organizations had slated its annual school supply giveaway for July 31 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Edgelea Elementary School parking lot, 2910 S. 18th St. The event will be held at the same location and time.
This year's rally is being held in conjunction with the sixth annual Youth Explosion sponsored by Second Baptist Church in Lafayette. Rev. Paul Barrett is the pastor.
The Back of School Rally is open to all local school children. The Greater Lafayette Indiana Black Expo will be distributing 200 book bags filled with various school supply items. The rally, part of a statewide effort by the Indiana Black Expo, was created to encourage students academically, promote parental involvement, endorse cultural awareness and support administrators to achieve the goals of the local school district.
The Youth Explosion event will feature children games, activities, food and music in support of local youth. The event is open to the public and there is no admission fee.
The Greater Lafayette Indiana Black Expo will also sponsor a membership drive during the rally and Youth Explosion program. There are six levels of membership starting at $25. Membership benefits include an Indiana Black Expo lapel pin, discounts at Enterprise Rent-A-Car among other services.
