INDIANAPOLIS – Two West Lafayette women were among 10 winners of the fourth annual Celebration of Hoosier Women Artists competition.
Indiana Lt. Governor Becky Skillman this week announced the winners the contest, conducted annually in March to coincide with national Women’s History Month.
Genevieve Borden was named a winner for her work titled “Migration.” Catherine Riley was also named a winner for her work titled “Sunflower.”
“The competition this year was incredibly difficult to judge. More than 180 very talented Hoosier women from throughout the state entered their original works,” Lt. Governor Skillman said.
“These women artists illustrate the fact that Indiana is home to incredibly talented women. The works they submitted were as diverse as the women themselves. It is an honor to display their art in my office.”
The Lt. Governor will personally recognize the winners Wednesday, March 31, at the Statehouse.
Dr. Jean Robertson, professor of Art History at IUPUI’s Herron School of Art and Design, assisted with the judging of the 184 submissions. Lt. Gov. Skillman ultimately selected the 10 winners, after considering feedback from her staff and Dr. Robertson.
The winning pieces will be on display in the lobby of the Lt. Governor’s office and on the Lt. Governor’s website for one year beginning in early April.
