Lafayette armory, reserve center get dedication

LAFAYETTE - Indiana National Guard Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger will welcome Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman to a dedication ceremony for the Lafayette Armory and Reserve Center on Friday Oct. 22, 2010 at 10 a.m.

The ceremony will last approximately one half hour and will be followed by a reception and tour of the facilities.

The Lafayette Armory and Reserve Center is a 100,000 square-foot, two-story addition to the existing 32,000 square-foot Lafayette Armory.

The new facility is a Base Realignment and Closing project designed to relocate Indiana Army National Guard units from the Delphi, Monticello, Boswell and Attica Armories. The project also includes adding 11,000 square feet of maintenance bays to the existing Field Maintenance Shop.

The facility is designed to accommodate 657 National Guard soldiers from the 638th SPT BN (ASB), HSC 638th ASB, CO A 638th DISTRO (ASB), 738th ASMC, Det 1, 38th MP CO and a Recruit Sustainment Detachment and 160 Army Reserve Soldiers from the 209th QM CO.

The entire project was built by Lafayette companie160 Army Reserve Soldiers Kettelhut Construction, Inc and Scholer Corp architects. The project cost comes to nearly $28 million.
