Antonia Hinds, an incoming freshman at Lafayette Jefferson High School who was a straight-A student at Tecumseh Jr. High School is OurTown.com’s Student of the Month for August. Antonia was a cheerleader and member of the Flag Corps and choir at Tecumseh and wants to pursue the same interest at Lafayette Jeff.
Antonia credits her mother, Amber Hinds, with being an inspiration to her.
“She encouraged me to be a really good student because the better grades you have, the better opportunity you’ll have to get a good job. She’s my motivation.”
Antonia said after graduating from Lafayette Jeff in 2013, she plans on attending college and becoming a pediatrician.
“I like kids and I think it would really be fun to work with them,” Antonia said. “In high school I hope to get career skills for the future.”
Amber Hinds said her daughter has been focused on earning good grades since elementary school and is proud of her discipline and determination.
“She’s going into high school now and I expect that she will keep that up,” Amber Hinds said. “She seems to really love children and they love her, so being a pediatrician would really work well for her. I can’t put into words how proud I am off her.”
Amber Hinds said Antonia is a good example for children and even her as a mother because her daughter has a strong work ethic and is well organized.
