Volunteers are needed to help with the LayFlats Festival on September 5. Get into the event for free. Volunteers are asked to help with a three hour shift between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. and on projects such as helping with arts and crafts for kids, clean-up as needed, etc.

The Wabash River Enhancement Corporation (www.wabashriver.net) is looking for volunteers to sample streams within our watershed area (Battle Ground to Attica along the Wabash River) on September 18 between 3-5 p.m.

Become a volunteer at the Lafayette Crisis Center. Training sessions will be starting soon, so inquire for more information. There are two training sessions, one at night and one during the day. Training starts Monday, Sept. 28. It is held every Monday and Wednesday evening, for four weeks, form 6-10 p.m. The day training starts Thursday, Oct. 1. It is held every Thursday morning, for eight weeks, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There will be a volunteer callout for the YWCA from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, in the YWCA 604 Training Room. This callout is for ages 18 and up and will highlight volunteer needs for each YWCA department and special events.

Want to make a difference in only four hours a month? Mental Health America is looking for volunteers to spend time with an individual recovering from a mental health challenge. Training and support is provided. Volunteers 30 and over are especially encouraged to apply.

The American Red Cross needs volunteers to provide around-the-clock, around-the-world communication between military members and their families. The “Service to the Armed Forces” volunteer would be on call from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and 24 hours Saturday and Sunday for one week at a time based on availability. A training course is required and a pager is provided.

The American Red Cross needs volunteers to serve on our Disaster Action Team. We provide 24 hour response to local disasters, including single family disasters and rehabilitation to local emergency personnel through our Disaster Action Teams (DAT). DAT members are on call from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and on weekends based on availability. We are also looking for volunteers who would be able to respond to disasters from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the week.

Food Finders Food Bank is seeking volunteers to sort food items, donated from local merchants. Morning and afternoon shifts available. This would be a great opportunity for groups or organizations, as well as individuals.

The City of West Lafayette is looking for volunteers to help with a new program. Volunteers are needed to help with general outdoor property clean-up. For more information please contact me.

Volunteers are needed for the 3rd Annual Tippy Connect 5k Run/Walk. The event in on Saturday, Sept 12th at 9:00 ...volunteers would be required to be there from 7-10 a.m. Contact me for more information.
