Art museum kicks of luncheon series

From Lafayette/ West Lafayette, Indiana

LAFAYETTE – The Art Museum of Greater Lafayette will kick off a new luncheon lecture series on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 11:30 a.m.

The lecture On the Shoulders of Giants, a Brief History of Art and Art Education 1300 – Present, by James C. Werner, will be held in the Mickey Shook Community Room.

Werner will present a slide presentation that examines the major period styles in western art history and those individual artists, students, schools and studios that have passed on and preserved knowledge and artistic skills over the ages.

The objective of the lecture will be to have a relaxing and fun brown bag lunch while gaining an introductory level of knowledge. Werner will discuss historical period styles in art as well as contextual religious, political and technological changes that influenced the major historic movements in western art and how the educational systems contributed to those stylistic changes.

Werner is a studio arts instructor for the art museum and a teacher of the history of art and architecture at Ivy Tech. The brief lecture is sure to be informative and to the point.

Future speakers in the series will include Arne Kvaalen on pastel painting and Bob Haan on Hoosier Impressionists.

The Art Museum is located at 102 South 10th St. The gallery’s hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
