Google and MTA Team Up for NYC Transit Directions

From Kitchen Sink NYC

Comprehensive directions for getting around New York City and the metropolitan area by subways, buses, and commuter railroads are now available in one place.

Google and the MTA have announced a partnership that brings New York metropolitan area transit directions to Google Transit (a feature Google Maps). The service is accessible through a dedicated page on the MTA's website or on Google Transit.

Users can punch in their starting point and destination and get mapped out itineraries of suggested routes by any means of public transportation available, as well as scheduling data and point-to-point time estimates.

"It's a very complicated transit system, and it just got less complicated today with the advent of Google Maps for transit," said Governor David Paterson in a press conference Tuesday morning at Grand Central Terminal.

The navigation tool integrates maps and schedules for the following services:

NYC Transit   MTA Bus    Long Island Rail Road

Long Island Bus

  Metro-North Railroad   PATH

New Jersey Transit

One feature of this new tool that sets it apart from others already available is the inclusion of MTA subway scheduling data.
