  1. 8 RULES FOR BEING A PERFECT WEDDING GUESTTue, 20 Mar 2012 12:26:59 EST
I attended a wedding of a co-worker this past weekend and was reminded, as we all need to be at some time, of a few of the dos and donts that make us a good wedding guest, if not a perfect one. 1) RSVPit is an acronym for a French phrase, but what it means is please do me the courtesy of letting me know whether or not you will be at the reception. You know those little cards that they put in with the wedding invitation; they even put a stamp on the envelope for you. Your hosts are serious. They really want to know if you will be there or not. Dinners are expensive, and place cards take a while to make. They want you to join them or they wouldnt have invited you, but they dont want to save you a seat or pay for a dinner if you cant make it. Cardinal Rule #1take two minutes to fill out the card and put it in the mail. 2) If you have replied that you will be at the reception, please be thereyour hosts have paid for your meal. More...

  2. THE THANK YOU E-MAILWed, 03 Mar 2010 11:37:03 EST
I was watching the Ellen DeGeneres Show this morning.thats one of the privileges of being a freelance writerone of the cons of course is no regular paycheck. Anyway, Ellen said that she has over 4 million followers now on Twitter, but that she thinks we should all put down our cell phones every once in a while and actually focus on whats importanther show. Ellen was joking of course, but she does have a point. In this world of electronic communication and the quick message, we are losing something.the ability to communicate with one another in a polite, well-spoken, grammatically correct way. And forget about good spelling. That appears to be lost forever. More...

  3. HOW WARM IS YOUR HOMEThu, 04 Feb 2010 07:47:41 EST
I recently ran into a casual acquaintance who told me that she had received an invitation to a housewarming party. At the bottom of the invitation there was a note that said, we are registered at Bed, Bath and Beyond. My acquaintance wanted to know if they were expected to purchase a gift from the registry (many of the gifts on the registry were quite pricey) or if they could bring a simpler gift. More...

  4. TOP TEN PET PEEVESThu, 21 Jan 2010 12:53:56 EST
Everyone has their list of annoying things that others do. We, of course, are never guilty of these transgressions ourselves. I have my list as well. Ill share mine with you if you will share yours with me. That way I can make sure that I wont annoy you if we ever have the opportunity to meet. 1) Combing or brushing or playing with your hair in public. No one wants to sit behind you in a theatre or worse yet sit next to you in a restaurant and watch you twist your hair into a pony tail or brushing it into submission. Please take the comb and brush into the restroom. 2) Leaving your grocery cart in the middle of the aisle at the supermarket. More...
