KZF DESIGN AWARDED 3 BIG PROJECTS

From CinciPulse - The Pulse of the City

KZF Design, Inc., based in Cincinnati, Ohio, announces the awarding of three significant project contracts, the Pennsylvania State Correctional Institution - Graterford, Pennsylvania, State Correctional Institution - Forest County and KZF's first project for the US Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Tallgrass Prairie Visitor Center, located in Cottonwood Falls, KS.

The SCI Graterford East and SCI Graterford West Prison will be one of the largest correctional projects in progress in the United States. This 4,000 bed facility, located near Philadelphia, is part of a state-wide initiative to add 9,000 beds to Pennsylvania's overcrowded state prison system. KZF is providing architecture, sustainable design, security design, electrical and mechanical engineering as well as construction administration services to this $365 million project.

Graterford will be Pennsylvania's first LEED® Certified prison and is tentatively slated to open for operation in 2014. KZF is providing A/E and sustainable design services as part of a Design/Build team for the design and construction of a new, maximum security-Level 5 Close Security Housing Unit at SCI Forest, in Jenkins Township, Forest County, PA. The $12M project has a goal of LEED Certification. The structure will be a 2-story, 96-bed facility; cost-effective, energy-conserving features will be incorporated into design, including energy management control systems, and high-efficiency motors, lighting, HVAC systems and other items necessary to achieve LEED Certification.

"Justice Design is one of our core areas of focus at KZF Design" said David Bostwick, KZF's Director of Justice Planning and Design. "Our experience developing complex detention solutions has been recognized by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and we are pleased to be working on these important projects on their behalf."

KZF is currently providing architectural, sustainable design, structural, civil, and mechanical engineering, and interior design services for the National Park Service as part of a Design/Build team for a new Visitor Center and Administrative Facility at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve near Strong City, Kansas.

KZF is working with the National Park Service to design this new facility to LEED Gold Certification standards. KZF will be delivering a series of comprehensive sustainable features to include multiple sources of renewable energy, a 12+ inches thick vegetative roof system, an advanced wastewater treatment system and many other sustainable attributes, including integration of salvaged and reclaimed local materials. Doug Marsh, Director of KZF's Government & Justice Group said, "KZF is pleased and proud to add these significant projects to KZF's 25-plus year history of providing leading edge design services to our local, state and federal correctional clients. Additionally, KZF is very excited to begin to build a relationship with a new client in the National Park Service. All of these projects reflect KZF's commitment to serving our region and our country now and into the future through functional sustainable design."
