SMOKE RINGS 6-16

From CinciPulse - The Pulse of the City

By Andy Furman Notes compiled while trying to find a dry piece of paper…. Dhani Jones. Chad Ochocinco. Pick your weapons. Take your sides. Both have missed the Cincinnati Bengals voluntary workouts. Both have been gone under the same guise. And one has been bashed by not only the media – but his own teammate. Take a guess? Easy – Chad. Dhani Jones, the quarterback of the defense. The starting middle linebacker has been out of town taping his show for the Travel Network. He’s toured the world, been commended for it – and quite honestly has been given a free pass. The pass issued, of course, by the fans and media. And even his teammates. Now Chad. That’s a completely different story. He made national headlines when he danced into the semifinals of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. He remained in Los Angeles to tape his new reality VH-1 dating show. And wouldn’t you know it – everybody and anybody is upset. Last week his quarterback – Carson Palmer -- called out Ochocinco for not being present for any of the team’s voluntary workouts. Ochocinco was taping ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and doing that dating reality thing during the time of the workouts. “It would be great to have our No. 1 receiver here and working him and building it around him,” Palmer said last week. “We’ve tried moving guys around. Maybe they’re trying to find a new No. 1 receiver because it’s hard to work your offense without that guy around. We’ve moved Antonio (Bryant) around; he’s been playing some spots. “It’s hard to tell and say because we’re looking for a No. 2 and No. 3 receiver without a No. 1,” he said. Fine. But what about Jones? He’s been touring the globe and missed the workouts as well. Let’s have a balanced playing field, please. At least Ochocinco will be shape from his dance routines. What about Jones? Perhaps it’s all a smoke screen. Remember, Palmer had a real sub-par season last fall. Maybe he’s prepping for the worst and pointing fingers at Ochocinco for fear of his own failures. But who’s pointing the fingers at the defense? ##
